Manuscripts Drafted.

I’ve finished, probably only step two in a long list of steps, but I’ve finished. Mrs. Brown, the first novel I ever wrote, she went off to my editor, Andrea, this morning. Part of her also went off to the lovely Lorraine for her cover to be created.

I’ve also finished the first draft of The Longing, a more recent novel. Again, the draft has been sent to Andrea and parts have been sent to Lorraine. It has been a marathon.

Mrs. Brown started out as a NaNoWriMo challenge in 2011. She has been written, re-written, fiddled with basically basically, I was too scared to put her out for public scrutiny. I loved writing her story and I still love the story I’ve written. A strong woman, decision maker, loving wife and a woman on the run. That doesn’t mean it’s suitable for the public to read. Since the first draft was written, I have had many small pieces, articles and poems published. I’ve attended writing courses, worked with writing groups and used many online tools to improve my writing. I am a better writer than I was nine years ago, but I’m not as good a writer as I will be nine years from now.

The Longing was another NaNoWriMo challenge in 2018. It started life as inspiration from a small article in The Guardian. Tucked away, at the bottom, on the science page. A germ of an idea, a moral dilemma. It grew. The amount of research I did was phenomonal. I have learned so much. I loved writing the story, set in the near future and about a subject I knew very little about and to make life a little more difficult, from a man’s point of view.

Their stories are ready for the wider world to read them. Their dates for publication haven’t been set yet, there is a great deal to do before then, but they will be published.
