Amalie, my bronze age girl with horse survival adventure story for tweens, is up for pre-order on Amazon. It is book one in the Bronze Age series: A perilous journey. Priced at £2.99 in the UK, $3.99 in the US and €2.99 in Europe.
She hasn’t taken as long to write as Mrs Brown did, only eighteen months. Now after several edits, critiqued by twelve year olds, hours of frustrations and virtual fights with technology, she will be published on the 29th September. Whoo hoo.
My inspiration for this story came from a small article in La Voz, a local Galician paper. A group of archaeologists who were excavating an area around Vilacha unearthed a stone coffin, Sepultura, complete with occupant. According to the article this was a rare occurrence. Also found, was the skeleton of a high born woman next to the original castro gates.
The skeleton by the gates morphed into Amalie’s mama, a gifted herbalist. The body in the Sepultura materialised into Amalie’s papa, a smelter of high quality axe-heads and other weapons. Amalie aged twelve, a figment of my imagination, evolved as an independent horse-lover, with the ability to catch, skin and cook wild rabbit. She was due to travel to the annual market on the coast at Os Pericos with her family and their goods and also to meet her mate, Hai, a match arranged by her papa, but events intervened
A small part of this novel has already been published in the 2019 Good Life in Galicia anthology, produced by my good friend Sophie Bush. I hope your children or grandchildren love reading about Amalie and her perilous journey, as much as I loved writing her story. I love having a vivid imagination it’ll get me into trouble one day, till then I’ll keep on writing, editing, proofing and publishing.
