Baby Animal Farm

Kitten Rescue

It all began with a phone call from the neighbour, Josh, who alerted us to two kittens wandering along the gravel road leading away from Chris and Rachael’s farmstead.

Without hesitation, IG and Rachael leapt into the car to rescue them. When they returned, there were indeed two little furballs: a tabby named Maggie and a black kitten nicknamed Mavis, or affectionately, Mavy. Named by IG, all her animals have names beginning with M.

Maggie was thin and missing her tail, while Mavy, though also thin, showed incredible courage as she stood up to the family German Shepherd, who quickly retreated, confused.

After IG and Rachael bathed the kittens, de-fleaed them, and fed them with purchased kitten milk and meat, which they annihilated before curling up around our necks for a nap.

Although there’s a colony of feral cats in the area, these kittens were unusually friendly. And this led us to believe they had been dumped by humans rather than abandoned by their feral mother.

The following five days were filled with feeding, bathing, playing, and plenty of cuddles with the two kittens.

However, this isn’t where the story ends. On the sixth day, Josh spotted two more kittens abandoned by the side of the road. Once again, IG and Rachael rushed off to rescue them. Fortunately, these two were in better condition, and they seemed to bond instantly with the first two, suggesting they were siblings.

Now IG had four kittens in her room, all under a heat lamp, receiving the same tender care: bathing, de-fleaing, deworming, and lots of food. After playtime, what a joy it was to have a kitten curled up around my neck, purring like a finely tuned Harley!

Mavy’s lively personality charmed everyone, and no one was safe from her playful attacks—she reminded me of the kitten from The Aristocats. Maggie preferred napping, while the two new additions played energetically, making the dogs retreat from their boisterous antics.

However, IG’s existing three cats took an instant dislike to the newcomers. and with some gentle persuasion from Rachael, they decided the new kittens would best be suited for a local cat sanctuary.

Within a day, a lovely couple arrived with a trap, and they were thrilled we had spent time socializing all four kittens, stating they’d be easy to rehome.

The following day felt quiet after the kittens’ daily antics, but fear not—the baby animal farm still had surprises in store for us!

Thank you for reading my post and I’m looking forward to publishing the next one. PS I learnt today that the kittens have loving new homes.
